Construction Challenge
SCW TSA students aid reconstruction at Deltaville Maritime Museum
By: Brooke Daniel and Tyler Radabaugh
As St. Clare Walker Middle School TSA (Technology Student Association) club members are proceeding to the state competition in Richmond, they have taken on a construction challenge to help meet the needs of the community. While considering a local community service group to assist, SCW TSA students decided the Deltaville Maritime Museum would be a great choice because of their crucial needs during their reconstruction. The Deltaville Maritime Museum suffered a major loss last July 18, 2012 with a catastrophic fire that destroyed buildings and many of their artifacts. Last Sunday, March 17, SCW TSA students interviewed local Deltaville Maritime Museum Vice President, Bill Powell, and newly appointed Park Director, Marvin Tiller, to discuss the areas of concern, and how they could assist in the reconstruction process by donating time, effort, and proposing creative ways to improve the park.
The SCW TSA club members decided to team up with the Deltaville Maritime Museum to help by using the St. Clare Walker Tech Ed department’s CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) router to make signage, maps, or other resourceful utilities for the park. Students will consider the information and ideas expressed during the interview. On Saturday, March 23rd, they will present the designs to Bill Powell and Marvin Tiller for approval. After this
preliminary approval, the students will then offer their ideas to the executive board of the museum. The creation of the signs and other projects is contingent upon the confirmation of the committee.
The SCW TSA club and Deltaville Maritime Museum will continue to keep you updated on this ongoing process. TSA club members involved are: Kenneth Beam, Brooke Daniel, Jack Graulich, Chloe Hodges, Kevin Horton, Andrew Hudson, Jeffrey Jones, Jerry Lindsey, Cole Radabaugh, Tyler Radabaugh, Jack Ruark, and Mr. Matthew Short, the SCW TSA advisor. For donations towards the Deltaville Maritime Museum please contact them directly at (804) 776-7200.
